BROADCAST PERSONALITIES:

While broadcast technologies do not allow for immediate dialogue and conversation, it is important for any broadcast to inspire an internal dialogue within the individual listener; or perhaps amoung a community listening group. The goal is to encourage active, rather than passive, listening and use of information.

Most weather, climate and related information (generally carried by RANET and provided by its partners) is in the form of a text or image based forecast, observation, bulletin, etc. Rarely is a larger context for the information provided or discussed. RANET, therefore, has recently launched a new program of 'broadcast personalities' on our digital satellite radio broadcasts in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. The intent of this program is to allow experts, journalists, and others with special insights into the environment to discuss relevant issues at the global and local level.

We begin our broadcast personality initiative with the running series "The Environmental Minute" written and edited by Dr. Michael Glantz.

We continue the effort with the Africa Rain Series produced by the Network of Climate Journalists and Scientists of the Greater Horn of Africa (NECJOGHA).

Other personalities will soon follow.
